On the Trail of Genghis Khan tour news - Melbourne, Hobart, Warragul.

I am nearing the end of the Australian Tour of my book, On the Trail of Genghis Khan – a journey that has taken me more than 4,000 km by car to Brisbane, and back down south along the east coast, then west by air to Perth and Margaret River. As I speak, I am in Adelaide preparing for my event tomorrow night at the Mercury Theatre (some tickets still remaining, book at It has been a wonderful opportunity to meet face to face with old friends, and people who have supported me over many years. It has been a stark contrast with the rather solitary task of sitting behind a desk and typing, and I would like to thank, World Expeditions for their help in arranging the tour, and all those who have come along for your support and interest – it has been an overwhelming response. Thanks also to Tigon. He has accompanied me all the way, in the back of the car, tolerating jolty taxi rides, the many couches of ABC studios, pats from leagues of loyal fans, and the waiting around in green rooms for his appearances on stage. He has also, so far, agreed to sing at every event to date!

This is by no means the end of the tour however though….in fact, not only is the New Zealand (Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch) and North America Tour coming up (details to come shortly), but I have saved the best for last in Australia.

Please read on for news….including Tigon becoming a legitimate father for he first time!

Australian Polar Explorer, Eric Phillips, will be introducing me. If you live in Hobart, or the surrounding area, please spread the word. If we get enough tickets sold, I will be taking my canine companion Tigon down for the event as well!

It might be the last event on my Australian schedule, but in many ways it promises to be the most special of all. On the 10th of October, I will be fortunate to be presenting in Warragul, the town near to where I grew up, and where I went to school. I am very appreciative of all the interest and support that my local community has shown me over many years.

For this event, I am privileged to be joined by violinist, and composer extraordinaire, Cye Wood (, who will be putting on a special live concert as part of the event. Cye worked together with Lisa Gerrard on the wonderful soundtrack for my ABC film, and we are lucky to have him visit from his Byron Bay abode between his busy international schedule. Mongolian traditional dancer, Amra Otgeril, will also be performing in what promises to be a night of music, culture, history and adventure. Internationally renowned cinematographer, Michael Dillon will also be introducing me. The event will be held at the world class West Gippsland Arts Centre. If you live in the Gippsland region, or eastern suburbs of Melbourne, be sure to tell your friend, and book soon – For those Melbourne people who can’t make it to the Melbourne event on the 3rd of October, Warragul is only 1hr, 10 mins from the CBD.
